Mark L. Carroll
Founder
Mark L. Carroll founded Village Hospice first location in 2008, Village has grown over the years to serve many communities. The goal is to ensure every patient we serve has a good death and families can celebrate the life of their loved one.
Mr. Carroll is a healthcare executive with over 25 years’ experience, 12+ year hospice industry veteran. In 2008, he opened Brookhaven Hospice in 2 states, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. It was a successful venture, and it sold in 2014. In 2016, Village Hospice was formed in Massachusetts to acquire, develop, and grow hospice organizations.
Mark is a graduate of University of Massachusetts in Boston and holds a master’s degree in Heath Care Management from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is also licensed Nursing Home Administrator in 2 states Massachusetts and Maryland.

Sean E. D’Urso
Founder and Chief Financial Officer
Sean E. D’Urso founded Village Hospice in 2008 with the goal of providing quality of care balanced with strong financial management. He has experienced his own family’s struggles with end of life care and wanted to provide a better model of caring.
Mr. D’Urso has over 25 years extensive experience in accounting, financial reporting, debt financing, budgeting and reimbursement, due diligence, start-ups, and auditing. He has held positions in both large sector healthcare publicly trades organizations and the private sector.
Sean holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Lucy M. Elya
Director of Finance and Reimbursement
Lucy M. Elya has over 30+ years of finance and reimbursement experience and is focused on billing, collections, accounts payable and human resources for Village Hospice. Prior to Village Hospice, Lucy worked for a large multi-state hospice organization, and in the long-term care and acute hospital sectors.
Lucy holds an associate degree in business from Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Michael Cruza, MHA, CDP
Chief Growth Officer
Michael Cruza, MHA, CDP, serves as the Chief Growth Officer at Village Hospice Group. Bringing over three decades of dedicated experience in the healthcare industry to his role, and with a specialization in Hospice and Palliative care spanning two decades, Michael is deeply committed to enhancing patient care and community engagement.
In his capacity at Village Hospice, Michael leads growth initiatives with a focus on ensuring compassionate care for patients, support for families, and outreach to the broader community. He engages with patients, families, and healthcare providers, advocating for informed decision-making and promoting awareness of hospice and palliative care.
Residing in Plymouth, MA with his family, Michael incorporates his commitment to healthcare and community on both personal and professional levels.

Robert M. Velez
Vice President of Operations
Roberto M. Velez has over 15 years of leadership experience in Health Care. The last 10 of which were specifically in the Hospice sector. As the VP of Operations for Village Hospice, his focus is on managing and improving the agency’s operations, overseeing the development & implementation of programming, all while having a continued focus on a responsive care centric model for our patients and families. The mission is simple, “provide excellent clinical care at the end of life”, so that families can focus on having quality time with their loved ones.
Prior to Village Hospice, Roberto worked for a large multi-state hospice organization. Roberto holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration & economics from Worcester State University, Worcester, Massachusetts.
